PEI Wildflowers :: Lupines

We have always loved wildflowers and part of discovering our new island home is to find out about nature, including flora.

Last week, we went for a short walk on the Confederation Trail. This trail passes through Charlottetown and continues all through PEI. I'm hoping to either bike or walk more of it soon.

Celeste and I noticed some patches of lupine growing in a field right next to the trail. We saw a path and took it to get a closer look. We have seen lupines growing along the roads outside the city everywhere we have been so far. We have seen pink, purple and white lupines.

According to Get PEI website: "While the provincial flower is the Lady's Slipper, it is the lupine that is the flower most commonly associated with Prince Edward Island. The PEI government considers them to be invasive (i.e. a weed) and there are annual efforts to reduce their numbers on the island."

Wanderlust Tremblant Yoga Festival ~ The Yoga + Meditation Classes

Wow! What an amazing experience the Wanderlust Yoga Festival in Tremblant, Quebec was. I have been back for over two weeks and I am still processing everything I have learned, felt, discovered, experienced!

I want to share with you some of my thoughts through blog posts. It will take a few posts! This first post is all about the yoga and meditation classes. I will write at least two more, one about the other type of workshops we attended and one on the mountain hiking!

The festival was four days with a long list of workshops and classes to choose from every day. My husband and I registered for all our classes ahead of time, spending a few days poring over all the descriptions for each class and choosing carefully the ones we thought we would both enjoy.

I wanted to experience as much variety as I could, trying different types of yoga and teaching styles whenever I could. At the same time, I wanted the classes to be enjoyable for Shawn, who is newer to yoga.

How I Meditate with Mala Beads

Last month, I took part of the a 21-Day Meditation Challenge. It was a free challenge hosted by Wanderlust with Light Watkins and Mala Collective. It was an amazing experience to learn more about the meditation practice and how to use mantras and different focus during each of the 21 days.

One of the tools that helped me a lot during that meditation challenge was the Mala Collective bead necklace. I had learned a little bit about how to use them at the Wanderlust Festival this summer in Tremblant, Quebec. Ashley, founder of Mala Collective, graciously took time to explain to me how to use the necklace. Watching her handle the mala beads stuck in my mind and inspired me!

Meditation is a practice that is accessible to anyone but that can have, I found, a foreign feeling. I felt that way and did not know where to start. Light Watkins during that challenge explained and made it much more real and possible for me to dive in to that routine.
