Lupines :: Wildflowers

Lupines can be seen everywhere at this time of the year on Prince Edward Island, especially on the side of the road and at the edge of driveways. I love seeing all the colours along the country roads.

Lupines are from the pea family and can come in purple, white, pink, and blue-violet. They can grown to 2 feet and always look like they are standing nice and tall to me.

This patch of lupines in my photos were at the side of a house in Victoria-by-the-Sea. I loved seeing the tiny bit of red poppies in the midst of the lupines. Seeing lupines brings a smile to my face every time. It marks the start of summer and warmer temperatures on the island.

My children and I have loved lupines before we moved to PEI, ever since we read the beautiful Miss Rumphius story by Barbara Cooney. It is one of her favourites.

  5. I love lupins too! We have many on the sides of roads in NB too but I don't think they are quite as prolific here as they are on PEI. We didn't see as many as I would've liked when we visited in June, although we did see some...P Collette
