Panmure Island Provincial Park :: Explore PEI

Panmure Island Provincial Park is on the East coast of Prince Edward Island.

Almost an hour after leaving Charlottetown, we arrived at Panmure Island Provincial Park Beach. I find any drive here enjoyable. There are no "400" highways like in Ontario. Some people might not enjoy that, but I like the slower pace and being able to enjoy the scenery.

The map I have from the Points East Coastal Drive describes this park as one of the most popular beaches in the area. It has two separate beaches, the white sand beach on the ocean and the red sand on St. Marys Bay (you can see the bay in the photo above). The map also mentions that St. Marys Bay is good for clam digging.

We chose the ocean beach. We arrived before lunch and almost had the place to ourselves. The water was very calm and the sand very soft.

The water was a little cool but it was refreshing. We brought our dog with us, since they are allowed on a leash. We stayed several hours and enjoyed our time at the beach. Our dog and my husband went for several walks, while I went for little swims with Celeste.

We did notice some kind of yellowish flies, pretty large, not sure exactly what they were but they bit us. Maybe the proximity of the trees didn't help. Next time, we will stay a little further down the beach.

Before leaving, Celeste and I climbed the observation tower. What a view up there!

Can you see the lighthouse in the last photo? We went there after the beach. I will share photos in the next Exploring PEI post.
