Apple Picking :: PEI Open Farm Day

Yesterday was PEI Open Farm Day on the island. There were many farms participating. We chose to go to Beamish Orchards, an apple orchard close to Charlottetown. We had visited the same orchard last year on a homeschool field trip. We went with our friends this time. It was a busy place, it was great seeing so many families coming out for the Open Farm Day!

We listened to the presentation from Mike about his hobby orchard. It was very interesting to listen to, his commitment to be an organic farmer.

Celeste and I went on the wagon ride around the orchard, and then we all picked some Novamac apples to take home.

Most of the apples were not quite red all around yet, but we found some that were ripe enough to come of the trees easily.

We came home with 13 and half pounds of Novomac apples! We will try to go again in a couple of weeks. Mike told us that we can store these in the fridge for about 3 months. I am planning on making some apple crumble and maybe a few pies to freeze too.

It was a beautiful sunny day, I loved the cloudy sky!

I am linking this post to the Outdoor Hour Challenge Carnival hosted by Barb at Handbook of Nature Study.
