Celeste's Reading Challenge

January 6, 2013 I started logging the books that Celeste read herself. She knew that I kept track of the books I read on Goodreads. When she finished that very first chapter book all by herself, she asked me to log it in. I had used LibraryThing years ago and thought it would be perfect to log her books.

Ever since that day, I have been logging the books she reads. She has gone through phases of reading only Rainbow Magic books, or Garfield comic books, or Ivy and Bean series, along with some picture books.

She has re-read the novels I read aloud to her for her Brave Writer Arrow language arts program because she loves them. The Lemonade War was one of her favourite and she went on to read the whole series.

On the last day of 2013, we looked at her totals. 85 books read!

I am so happy for her. My late reader has grown into a book lover. Every single book recorded was read because she wanted to, for her own pleasure. If you had told me that, even just two years ago, I would not have believed you. I am so happy for her.

I asked her if she wanted to challenge herself in 2014. She answered yes and told me she was going to try to read 100 books!

I will continue to keep track for her and we have a widget on the left side of this blog showing her latest books read.

  1. Yay, Alex, that is wonderful! I LOVE Good Reads for keeping track of my own reading and my 'to read' list but have never thought of doing so for my boys. I have been writing down what they have read for years now but I bet they'd be thrilled to have their own Good Reads page!

Oh, and we love Brave Writer! We do Friday Freewrite. :)
