Book Sharing Monday :: The Curious Garden ~ Planting The Trees of Kenya

Celeste's choice this week is "The Curious Garden" by Peter Brown. We both really enjoyed the story and illustrations. The story is of a boy named Liam that discovers a tiny bit of a garden on an abandoned train path in his very grey city. He nurtures it and it soon grows bigger. 

Celeste's favourite quote is:

"Winter had taken a toll on the garden. But thanks to Liam's planning, his handy new tools, and a little help from the sun, the plants soon awoke from their winter sleep." 

My choice to share today is also a book with trees. "Planting the Trees of Kenya: The Story of Wangari Maathai" by Claire A. Nivola. 

Wangari Maathai was the winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize and founder of the Green Belt Movement in Kenya. This inspiring story of Wangari Maathai explains how one woman made a change in her country and taught others to care for the land by planting trees. 

"An early nursery in Wangari's backyard failed; almost all the seedlings died. But Wangari was not one to give up, and she showed others how not to give up."
