The Truth about my Weekly Homeschool Report + Friday Link ♥

A short week but filled with great moments!

Last night, I attended the monthly homeschool moms meeting. It is always great to meet with other moms. We laugh a lot, share a lot of stories and opinions, and learn from each other. With a wide range of kids ages, it is great to share insights into our homeschool lives and our struggles.

In our group, I am known for sharing a lot via social media and blogging. It also is mentioned by several that it seems I have "it all together" and "do it all". This is far from the truth!

I choose to focus on the positive and share our successes, activities and moments that bring us happiness. That does not mean we don't have bad days or struggles. We have plenty still now, with a lot of drama with a busy tween girl! I have had my share of negative moments while homeschooling my three children over the last 9 years! Plenty of frustration, tears, talking through my teeth, etc...BUT I prefer to share our fun and interesting times, what we love about being at home and learning together.

I like to hopefully inspire others and show that learning and doing things with your children, regardless if you are homeschooling or not, can be a wonderful experience.

So my blog posts and weekly homeschool reports are all about the fun and interesting stuff we did during the week. The good moments, the proud moments, the smiles and laughter. That is what I share.

If you are curious about my struggles in homeschooling, feel free to leave a comment or contact me via my blog facebook page or twitter. I am open to talk about pretty much anything!

Now for the report!

This week was a short week, as I mentioned at the start of my post. We had three days of our "regular" homeschool routine. Math was completed, as well as spelling.

We started a new book with Brave Writer Arrow language arts program. We are reading Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword by Barry Deutsch this month. We also enjoyed our weekly Poetry Tea Time.

We are learning about knights in our history this week, and will continue on next week. I have several interesting books from the library about this topic.

In science we continued studying stars. Celeste did some vocabulary copywork and worked on a sketch of the life cycle of a star.

In our USA States study, we learned about Delaware. Celeste and I came across the Winterthur Museum in our reading and she is wishing to visit their gardens, one day!

We also continued our Canadian Citizenship Challenge study. I wrote more about this activity here. We read about Canadian History this week, pre-Confederation.

We visited the library with friends and play a really fun game. Move & Groove by Thinkfun  is meant to be a toddler game but we (two moms, a 10 year old and a 5 year old) had a great time with it.

Celeste and I visited a friend's art studio after the library and a picnic there! It was wonderful. We then walked around downtown for some holiday window shopping. We wanted to share some items on our Downtown Wish List. This was a lot of fun! We stopped at our favourite stores and picked a few of our wished items. There is a prize to be won through social media...

Hats, always hats at Luna Eclectic Emporium

On Thursday, we toured the local police station. It was an interesting and very informative field trip. Celeste and I organized it so we went twice around, she had insisted!

And today is another P.D. Day, which means a day off for all of us. My son and I went out just the two of us for a little bit, he needed clothes badly. He is not a fan of shopping but it went very well.

Here are a few of our favourite links this week:

♥ for us moms, the new Unraveling the Year Ahead for 2015 from Susannah Conway is available as a free download.   she is also offering some help in finding your word for the new year.

♥ this morning I found out I was nominated in 2 categories for the 2014 Canadian Weblog Awards!

That is all for this week, I hope you have a great weekend!

I am linking this post to the Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers weekly wrap up.

  3. Love those hats. Sounds like a great week. I love your opening. Smiles in pictures doesn't mean there were no struggles to get there. Celebrate the accomplishments! Visiting from Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers :)

  4. Sounds fun to go to the homeschool momma's group. Unfortunately for me, working and homeschooling doesn't allow much time for field trips or activities outside of our schedule during the week. Being a working and homeschooling mom I did feel a bit out of place in my local support group. However, in my area, the more I've attended, the more I've seen working and homeschooling parents as well as single moms homeschooling. So the community and resources for homeschooling is growing. ~I'm visiting from Weekly Wrap Up!

  5. Yes! I identify so much with your choice to focus on the positive. I have also had similar "You seem to have it all together" comments, but I still choose to remember, in writing, the things that make us happy, and I appreciate that other bloggers do the same. We all know everyone has weak points and hard days...
