Raincoast Books is having an awesome giveaway! I was invited to choose two Rodale books to review and the giveaway is for your own copies of these two titles! (please note the cover of Operation Happiness is different in the final copy, mine is an early review copy).
Happy and cozy books! |
The first book I chose is Operation Happiness: The 3-Step Plan to Creating a Life of Lasting Joy, Abundant Energy, and Radical Bliss by Kristi Ling
I have to share with you that I am not usually a fan of self-help books but this one I really enjoyed! It is divided into three main parts. The first one is the author's personal story, how she came to understand and study the science of happiness. The second part is a guide to making Over Your Mornings, which is filled with a lot of practical ideas to try out as well as many thought inducing suggestions. The third and last part of the book is a month-long daybook, 30 days of the author's favourite articles and posts from her blog.
This book is truly filled with inspiration to lead a happier life. It helps you develop the skill to practice daily happiness. Here is a quote I really agreed with:
"Begin now to think of happiness not just as a choice, a feeling, or a state of mind...but as a skill. A skill that can be learned, practiced, and even for the most part mastered. It's a required sill. It's also a way of life."
Kristi has a great podcast called Happy, Free, and Wild. Check out more on her website: Kristi Ling.
The second book I chose is The Year of Cozy: 125 Recipes, Crafts, and Other Handmade Adventures by Adrianna Adarme.
This is not only a beautiful book to look through, but filled with delicious recipes, things to do in your home and around your community, decorating and craft ideas, and other life tips. It's truly filled with goodness and plenty of cozyness!
The book is divided by seasons, then by month, and starts with Autumn. The author's and her dog's birthday are in October, so she started with it. Each month is filled with ideas to "live, make, and do".
To give you an idea, here is a list of all the cozy projects that Adrianna shares under the month of January:
- Live: "do nothing"
- Make: 6 different flavoured butters (I want to make strawberry-rose petal butter!)
- Do: birch trivet
- Make: hazelnut-chocolate hot toddy
- Make: a vegetable cassoulet
- Live: write handwritten notes
- Do: organize your pantry
- Make: rotisserie chicken three ways
- Live: start a good habit
You can visit Adrianna at her very popular blog: A Cozy Kitchen.

So this year, the new thing I'm trying is going to the gym regularly. I am training to run a 10k.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling a need for Winter coziness, these sound great!
ReplyDeleteThis year I'm trying to make more time for run. My To Do list is overwhelming and exhausting and will never *really* be done. So I need to just spend time relaxing more. Chores will be there waiting for me later.
ReplyDeleteOooh what lovely books, Alex! I am trying to simplify this year, getting rid of those 'to-do's' that aren't really necessary to make more time spend doing wholesome life things which also include enjoying cooking and baking. :0
ReplyDelete"The year of cozy" looks very interesting.
