The Sandwich Thief is written by Andre Marois and illustrated by Patrick Doyon.
This is the illustrated story of Marin, a young school boy, who loves his lunch sandwiches. These sandwiches are made by his mom, who loves good food..she even makes her own mayonnaise! Every day is a particular type of sandwich and his dad also adds little notes for Marin in his school lunch box.
One day, Marin opens his lunch box only to discover that his favourite sandwich (ham, cheddar, and kale) is missing. He first suspects his classmates and looks everywhere for clues. He doesn't discover the thief. Unfortunately, it happens again. He enlists the help of the principal, who seems to be having a really rough time, then his parents...I don't want to give away the ending but it had a great twist!
This story is full of humour along with the mystery! We both really enjoyed reading this story. It won the Governor General's Literary Award for Illustrated Children's Literature in French Language. I would love to read it in French too. We also loved the art by Patrick Doyon as well, the expressions on the characters' faces really add to the story. This book is geared towards children ages 6 to 9, but both Celeste (11) and I really enjoyed reading it!
