Whenever I review a book, along with reading and exploring the book and its ideas, I like to find out information about the author. I am a very curious person! Draw Your Big Idea: The Ultimate Creativity Tool for Turning Thoughts into Action and Dreams Into Reality! is written by Nora Herting and Heather Willems who are both founders of ImageThink.
Learning about Nora and Heather and their company was fascinating. ImageThink is an innovative company dedicated to helping leaders and companies visualize their big ideas through drawing. Graphic recording is listening to, for example, a group of business executives in a strategic planning meeting and writing down as well as illustrating what was said. This video on their website explains it much better than I can!
Nora Herting and Heather Willems wrote this book to help anyone turn their ideas into reality through drawing. The introduction should be a must read. I learned in it the importance and value of sketching goals and why I should and can draw. The first chapter is great to get started with simply drawing and leaving our own criticism of drawing behind. I enjoyed being able to draw right in the book and think through all the exercises.
This guide invited me to think of big ideas and then many important details related to the big idea I chose, down what resources I need and who my customer might be. It pushed me to think more clearly about what I want to do, and to be honest, this will take time. With this book, I have a clearer vision of the different points I need to figure out. I can also see how Draw Your Big Idea would be useful several times as one works through different project ideas. Including drawing really helped me make this type of thinking to a more manageable process, as opposed to sitting with a blank piece of paper and a pen.
