The Yoga Kitchen ~ Book Review

The Yoga Kitchen is a amazing cookbook that includes vegetarian, gluten-free and refined sugar-free recipes. Several recipes are also vegan. This cookbook is divided into chapters that support the different energy systems in our bodies, called the seven Chakras. The idea is that each recipe might bring awareness and energy to each chakra, helping us to become aware, learning about ourselves and creating who we want to be.

Each chakra-chapter is explained in terms of its location in the body, the "state of mind" and "how you want to feel". This is very helpful because a recipe can be chosen based on how we want to feel. As an example, if I feel the need to be more calm and focused, maybe I want to spend time writing, I could choose a recipe from the "Calm" chapter which is based on the sixth chakra, the third eye.

The Cacao Tahini Energy Balls and the Matcharoons both are found in that chapter. Matcha is a powder made with ground green tea leaves.

I made both of these recipes and both were delicious! The Cacao Tahini Energy Balls were my favourite.

Some of the ingredients for the Matcharoons

The Matcharoons were excellent too but I think I overcooked them just a little bit. I will make them again for sure, the flavour was amazing.

The Nurture chapter has the gorgeous and very tasty Green Breakfast Bowl that is featured on the cover of the book. This chapter focuses on the heart chakra, focusing on balancing the connection between the mind and body.

The Green Breakfast Bowl is full of nutrient filled ingredients, like quinoa, kale, various seeds, and avocado. It is simply delicious too and very satisfying as a breakfast or even a dinner like I did.

The Flow chapter, based on the second chakra the sacrum, helps when we need some help with vitality and digestion, making sure the flow of energy is not blocked. Recipes in this chapter include the process of soaking grains which makes grain more gentle on the digestive system.

All the chapters have different focuses and all include interesting recipes. The recipes are creative but simple to make. I have really enjoyed testing and reviewing this cookbook and its connection to yoga. My husband enjoyed it so much too and the Green Breakfast Bowl is part of his regular breakfast routine. This cookbook is wonderful whether you are practicing yoga or not!
